Skill Isn't the Same as a Good Heart

Even if one learns the Yogic postures of the Siddhas, and holds his sexual energy in check,
still, the filth of the mind is not removed, and the filth of egotism is not eliminated. ||2||

In plain words

You could learn every hard pose the great yogis know. You could hold your body in perfect control.

And still the mud in your heart would stay. The puffed-up 'me' would not wash away by that alone.

You can be amazing at hard, impressive things and still have inner work to do — skill isn't the same as a good heart.
The deeper layer

Being very good at hard things is not the same as having a clean heart.

The Siddhas were yogis famous for amazing powers and difficult body poses. Some people also trained hard to control every urge of the body. The Guru says even all of that does not, by itself, wash away man kee mail, the dirt of the mind. It does not remove ha-umai, the puffed-up "me."

Think of a gymnast who can do a perfect flip but is mean to teammates. The skill is real. The inside work is still waiting. The Gurus honor effort. They also say that only a change of heart can do what technique alone cannot.

A Question to Sit With

Is being really skilled at something the same as being kind? How are they different?
