When someone's time here is complete, their soul answers a gentle call to come home.
The soul and the body, which were together for a while, say goodbye to each other.
And the One is the great Re-uniter — the one who brings the separated back together.
This verse speaks about someone dying. It gives one big comfort: the One brings back together those who are apart.
Sadrhay aa-ay: the call has come. The Guru speaks of death as a call from the True Creator. A soul answers it, the way you answer when you are called home. The soul and the body were together for a while, and now they part.
The verse is honest that this comes to everyone. Beauty cannot hold a person back, and it comes at every age. That is why it can feel so hard.
Then comes the shining phrase. Vichhurhi-aa maylanhaaro: the One is the Re-uniter of those who are separated. Think of a family scattered at a busy airport, then finding each other again at the gate. The One who allows the parting is also the One who brings us back together. Nothing we love is ever finally lost.
What comforts you when you have to say goodbye to someone for a while?
