Behind Every Story, One Kind Heart Everywhere

ayko sach vartai sabh antar sabhnaa karay partipaalaa.
The One True Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere; He cherishes everyone.
naanak ikas bin mai avar na jaanaa sabhnaa deevaan da-i-aalaa. ||5||5||
O Nanak, without the One Lord, I do not know any other; He is the Merciful Master of all. ||5||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The one true One is everywhere, quietly caring for everybody.

Beyond that One I know of nothing else — it is the kind heart behind it all.

Behind every story and every power, there's one kind heart, everywhere, caring for everyone.
The deeper layer

The shabad closes in pure oneness: "the One True Lord is pervading everywhere; He cherishes everyone." After showing even the gods caught in Maya, Guru Amar Das points past all forms to the single, all-cherishing Source: "without the One, I do not know any other; He is the Merciful Master of all." For a child: behind every story and every power, there's one kind heart caring for everyone.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to imagine one caring heart behind absolutely everything?
