In plain words

Keep the beautiful Name close — it will stand by you always and go with you wherever you go.

It becomes your real honor and your truest friend, right inside you.

Goodness kept in your heart is a friend that goes everywhere with you and never leaves.
The deeper layer

Goodness you keep in your heart is a friend that never leaves you.

This is the rahao line, the "pause," the center of the shabad. Gurmukh man mayray naam samaal: O my mind, turn toward the Guru and hold the Name close. The Name is the living presence of the One. Sadaa nibhai chalai tayrai naal: it will stand by you always and go with you.

Toys break, phones get old, and even the best things we own get left behind one day. This is the one companion that stays.

Gurmukh jaat pat sach so-ay: for such a person, the True One is their family name and honor. Antar sakhaa-ee prabh ho-ay: the One lives inside them as a friend and helper. Goodness kept in your heart goes everywhere with you.

A Question to Sit With

What's something good inside you that goes with you no matter where you are?
