Those who are protected by the Guru are saved, O Siblings of Destiny. They drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's sublime essence.

The pain of egotism within is eradicated and banished, O Siblings of Destiny, and peace comes to dwell in their minds. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those the Guru protects are saved, brothers and sisters. They drink the sweet nectar of the One.

The pain of ego leaves them from the inside, brothers and sisters, and peace comes to live in their minds.

When the ache of ego drains out, calm moves in.
The deeper layer

Those the Guru keeps safe are carried through. And they get to taste something sweet.

Har ras amrit is the sweet, life-giving nectar of the One. Amrit means a drink that brings deep life. The people the Guru protects drink it in.

Then ha-umai dukh uth ga-i-aa. Ha-umai is ego, the loud "me, me, me" inside. Its dukh, its pain, gets up and leaves. The verse treats ego as an ache to be healed, like a sore muscle.

When the ache goes, sukh vuthaa man aa-ay — peace comes to live in the mind. It is like a gentle guest who moves in and stays.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like when a knot of pride or hurt finally loosens?
