Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Today I am celebrating Phalgun, the spring festival.

I have joined the One's companions and begun to play.

My Holi is serving the saints.

I am dyed the deepest red, the color of the One's love.

The brightest color you can be stained with is love.
The deeper layer

Serving holy people is a festival of color, and it dyes you deep red with love.

Faag is Phalgun, the spring month, and its celebrations. Holee is Holi, the spring festival in India when friends throw bright colored powder and water at each other and everyone ends up laughing and splashed with color.

The verse honors that festival and finds it inside. Prabh sangee mil khaylan laag — joining the One's companions, I begin to play. Holee keenee sant sayv — my Holi is serving the saints. Rang laagaa at laal dayv — I am dyed the deepest red of the One's love. Powder washes off in the bath. This color stays.

A Question to Sit With

If love had a color, what color would yours be?
