A Wish That No One Miss the Name

One who does not know the Lord's Name, and who does not become Gurmukh - why did he even come into the world?

He never serves the Guru; he wastes his life uselessly. ||3||

In plain words

Whoever does not come to know the Naam of the One by turning toward the Guru, why did they even come into the world?

They never served the Guru, and their life slipped away for nothing.

It would be a shame to pass through life and miss the Naam you came to find.
The deeper layer

A life that never comes to know the Naam misses what it came here for.

The hard question is say jag meh kaahay aa-i-aa: why did they even come into the world? It is asked of the person who never comes to know the Naam through the Guru.

Gur kee sayvaa kaday na keenee: they never served the Guru. And so birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa: their life slips by empty.

Think of a trip to an amusement park where you spend the whole day in the parking lot. You were there, but you missed what you came for.

The question is a call to wake up, with a tender wish that no one misses the very thing they came here to find.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you would not want to go a whole day forgetting?
