Sikhism·Raag Bhairao·Shabad 57
Verse 3 of 5

Rich in the Only Way That Lasts

ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
cheet aavai taaN sarab ko raajaa.
When He comes to mind, I am the king of all.
ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾਜਾ ॥
cheet aavai taaN pooray kaajaa.
When He comes to mind, all my affairs are completed.
ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੁਲਾਲ ॥
cheet aavai taaN rang gulaal.
When He comes to mind, I am dyed in the deep crimson of His Love.
ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥
cheet aavai taaN sadaa nihaal. ||2||
When He comes to mind, I am ecstatic forever. ||2||

In plain words

When the One comes to mind, I am king of all.

When the One comes to mind, all my work is complete.

When the One comes to mind, I am dyed in the deep red of the One's love.

When the One comes to mind, I am glad forever.

The best kind of rich is the kind nothing can take away.
The deeper layer

Remembering the One makes you feel richer and fuller than a king.

When the One comes to mind, the Guru says, I am sarab ko raajaa, king of everyone. Raajaa means king, a human title for someone honored and full. My tasks, kaajaa, are all done. I am dyed in rang gulaal, the deep red of strong love. And I am nihaal, glad, forever.

Think of the last day of school before summer. Nothing new is in your pocket, yet you feel like you own the whole world. That kind of rich comes from being full inside.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel full in a way that has nothing to do with stuff?
