In plain words

Whoever serves the Guru is not gripped by fear. Whoever serves the Guru is not worn down by pain.

Nanak says: I have searched the Simritees and the Vedas, the old holy books. There is no difference between the Supreme One and the Guru.

All the deep teachings, followed far enough, point to the same One.
The deeper layer

Serving the Guru loosens the hold of fear and pain, and the Guru and the Supreme One are one.

Guru Arjan ends with a promise. Jin gur sayvi-aa tis bha-o na bi-aapai: whoever serves the Guru is not gripped by fear. And pain doesn't wear them down.

Then Guru Arjan says he has searched the Simritees and the Vedas. These are old sacred books of the Hindu tradition, named here with respect. Searched deeply, they point to the same truth.

Paarbarahm gur naahee bhayd: there is no difference between the Supreme One and the Guru. Paarbarahm means the One beyond everything.

Think of the sun and its light. You can't pull them apart. Where the light is, the sun is there too. Many books, one truth.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed different teachers or books pointing at the same truth?
