Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I have found peace and poise, bathing in the dust of the feet of the Holy.

aavan jaan rahay thit paa-ee janam maran kay mitay bisooray. ||1||
Comings and goings have ceased, and I have found stability; the pains of birth and death are eradicated. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Saying the Naam, peace and an easy poise arrive, like bathing in the dust of the saints' feet.

The restless going back and forth settles, a steadiness takes hold, and the aches of every ending fade.

The mind that stops racing back and forth finds a deep steadiness.
The deeper layer

The Naam brings peace and a steady heart.

Har har naam japat sukh sehjay — remembering the Name, I find peace and a natural, easy calm. Majan hovat saaDhoo Dhooray — it is like bathing in the dust of the holy ones' feet. That is a humble picture of getting clean just by being close to good people. Think of how you pick up good habits by spending time with a kind friend.

Aavan jaan rahay thit paa-ee — the coming and going stops, and I find steadiness. The pains of birth and death are wiped away. The restless back-and-forth settles, like a swing slowing to a stop.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind stop racing and settle down?
