You are my Honor and Glory; I seek Your Support, and Your Sanctuary. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O dear Master, You alone are what holds me up.

My honor and my worth rest on You. I hold on to Your support, and I come to Your shelter.

When you lean your whole weight on the One, you are held.
The deeper layer

The One alone holds you up, and your honor and your safe place rest there.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Thaakur jee-o tuhaaro parnaa: dear Master, You are my support. Maan mahat tumhaarai oopar: my honor and worth rest on You. Ot … sarnaa: Your support, Your shelter. It is pure trust, leaning the whole weight of the self on the One, the way a small child leans back into a parent's arms without looking.

A Question to Sit With

Who or what do you lean on when you need to feel steady?
