Through the Name of the Lord, I obtain the gift of fearlessness; Nanak places his head on the feet of the Saints. ||2||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Through Your kindness and care, I find peace. When You are kind to me, I cross the wide and frightening ocean of the world.

Through the Naam of the One, I have received the gift of fearlessness. Nanak says: I lay my head at the feet of the saints.

The greatest gift is fearlessness, and it comes with grace.
The deeper layer

The One's kindness carries you across, and the Naam gives you the gift of fearlessness.

Tumree da-i-aa ma-i-aa sukh paava-o: through Your kindness, I find peace. Bha-ojal tarnaa: crossing the frightening ocean of the world, the wide water of worries and wants. Abhai daan: the gift of fearlessness, one of Guru Arjan's most cherished gifts. Laying the head at the saints' feet is a gesture of humble trust. Guru Arjan signs the shabad as Nanak.

A Question to Sit With

What would you do if you felt completely unafraid?
