In plain words

Bathe every day in the dust of the feet of the saints,

and the wrongs of countless lifetimes are washed away.

Humility, kept daily, quietly washes away long-carried weight.
The deeper layer

Staying humble every day washes away old wrongs you have carried a long time.

The verse says sant rayn nit majan karai: "bathing every day in the dust of the Saints' feet." That sounds strange at first. Why bathe in dust? In Gurbani, the Guru's own words, the dust of the feet is a picture of humility. It means lowering yourself to serve and love others, like helping clean up after a party instead of waiting to be served.

The surprise is that this makes you clean. Janam janam kay kilbikh harai: the mistakes of many lifetimes are taken away. Kilbikh means wrongs or mistakes. Being humble is like a daily shower for the heart. Do it every day, and old grime you have carried for a long time slowly rinses off.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to serve someone without needing credit for it?
