ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ॥੩॥
har kirpaa niDh patit uDhaaran. ||3||
The Lord is the Treasure of Mercy, the Saving Grace of sinners. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You take away the pain of the humble and the poor, and You carry them across.

The One is a treasure of mercy, who lifts up those who have fallen.

Mercy leans especially toward the humble, and welcomes back everyone.
The deeper layer

The One takes away the pain of the humble and lifts up everyone who has fallen.

Deen darad nivaar taaran. Deen means the humble and the poor, people who have little. Darad means pain. Nivaar means to take away. So the One takes away their pain and carries them across.

Then: har kirpaa niDh patit uDhaaran. Kirpaa niDh means a treasure of mercy. Patit means those who have fallen or wandered off the path. And uDhaaran means to lift up.

Think of a parent watching the door for a child who went the wrong way. When the child comes home, there is no scolding at the door, only open arms. The humble are especially cherished here. And anyone who has fallen is lifted up.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to be welcomed back after you have been away or made a mistake?
