ਕਹਨਿ ਭਵਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਇਓ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਨਿਕ ਉਕਤਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
kahan bhavan naahee paa-i-o paa-i-o anik ukat chaturaa-ee. ||1||
By speaking and wandering, nothing is gained; nothing is obtained by clever tricks and devices. ||1||

By talking and by wandering, the One is not found. The One is not found by all kinds of clever tricks and plans either.
Some things cannot be won by cleverness — only received.
Talking, roaming and cleverness do not bring you to the One.
Kahan bhavan naahee paa-i-o: not by speaking, not by wandering from place to place. Anik ukat chaturaa-ee: not by countless clever ideas and tricks. Think of trying to win a friend by out-arguing them. Clever words cannot make love happen.
