Verse 6 of 15

The Restless Pulls, Gently Stilled

sarab niranjan purakh sujaanaa.
The Primal Lord is everywhere, immaculate and all-knowing.
adal karay gur gi-aan samaanaa.
He administers justice, and is absorbed in the spiritual wisdom of the Guru.
kaam kroDh lai gardan maaray ha-umai lobh chukaa-i-aa. ||6||
He seizes sexual desire and anger by their necks, and kills them; He eradicates egotism and greed. ||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The First One is everywhere, spotless and all-seeing.

With fairness the One acts, resting in the Guru's wisdom.

It takes the fever of wanting and the flash of anger and quiets them; it clears away pride and greed until the heart is light.

The strong feelings that grip you can be gently loosened, not fought.
The deeper layer

Desire and anger (kaam krodh) are taken firmly in hand, and pride and greed (ha-umai lobh) are cleared away. Ego is like a fever that cools. The heart is left light.

A Question to Sit With

What helps a strong feeling loosen its grip on you?
