Unshaken by the Winds of Wanting

naa man chalai na pa-un udaavai.
His mind does not waver, and he is not buffeted by the winds of desire.
jogee sabad anaahad vaavai.
Such a Yogi vibrates the unstruck sound current of the Shabad.
panch sabad jhunkaar niraalam parabh aapay vaa-ay sunaa-i-aa. ||8||
God Himself plays the pure music of the Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds to hear. ||8||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Such a heart does not wobble; the winds of wanting cannot knock it over.

It hums with a music that has no beginning and no end.

The One itself plays the five pure sounds for it to hear.

A steady heart is not blown over by every passing want.
The deeper layer

The winds (pa-un) are the gusts of craving that topple an unsteady mind. Panch sabad are the five primal sounds, an old image of an inner music, full of wonder. Steadiness (naa man chalai, the mind does not waver) is the fruit.

A Question to Sit With

What keeps you steady when you want something badly?
