In Awe, the Ego Melts

ਭਉ ਬੈਰਾਗਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਤਾ ॥
bha-o bairaagaa sahj samaataa.
In the Fear of God, in detachment, one intuitively merges into the Lord.
ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਅਨਹਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
ha-umai ti-aagee anhad raataa.
Renouncing egotism, he is imbued with the unstruck sound current.

With the ointment of enlightenment, the Immaculate Lord is known; the Immaculate Lord King is pervading everywhere. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In deep awe of the One, and gently free of clinging, the heart melts naturally into it.

Letting go of the feeling of being separate, it fills with that endless music.

With understanding like healing balm on the eyes, the spotless One is seen, shining everywhere.

Awe softens the hard feeling of being separate and alone.
The deeper layer

Bha-o here is awe and reverence, not fear-terror. Haumai, the illusion of being a separate self, dissolves as the heart melts into the One. Anjan (the ointment for the eyes) is enlightenment: clear sight that finds the One everywhere.
