In plain words

O my mind, rest at the feet of the One, again and again.

My heart is caught by thirst for a glimpse of the One. If I could, I would grow wings and fly out to meet the One.

Longing can lift you up like wings.
The deeper layer

Longing for the One can be so strong that it feels like wings.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Man mayray har kay charan raveejai: O my mind, dwell on the Lord's feet. Resting at someone's feet means staying close and humble, the way a small child sits by a parent. Daras pi-aas is thirst for a glimpse. Pankh lagaa-ay mileejai: I would take wings and fly to meet the One. In Malaar, the raag of the rains, longing often feels heavy. Here it soars.

A Question to Sit With

If you could fly straight to one person or place, where would you go?
