Where The Profit Is

ਧਾਤੁਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਚਲੈ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Dhaatur baajee sansaar achayt hai chalai mool gavaa-ay.
The world is unconscious, like a passing show; the mortal departs, having lost his capital.
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥
laahaa har satsangat paa-ee-ai karmee palai paa-ay. ||5||
The profit of the Lord is obtained in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; by good karma, it is found. ||5||

In plain words

The world is asleep, like a passing show. People leave it having lost even what they started with.

The profit of the One is found in the Sangat. By good karma, it comes into your hands.

The wealth that lasts is gathered in the Sangat.
The deeper layer

The Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One — is where you gather what lasts.

Dhaatur baajee is a passing show, like fireworks that are here and gone. Achayt means asleep, not noticing. People spend their whole life on it and leave having lost mool, their starting money, like a trader who comes home with empty pockets. Laahaa is profit, the Naam, and it is found in the satsangat. Karmee palai paa-ay — by good karma, it lands in your hands.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people who bring out the best, truest part of you?
