Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

By the destiny my past actions shaped, I searched and found the One.

The Lord of the World lives in the Sangat, among holy people.

Meeting the Guru, I have come to Your door.

Nanak says: O Lord, let Your servant see You.

The deepest things are found in the Sangat, among people who remember the One.
The deeper layer

The One lives in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One — and the heart that arrives there asks only to see.

"Kirat sanjogee" means by the meeting of past actions — a light touch on karma understood as the deep currents that shape a life. "SaaDhsangat" is where the seeker is pointed to find the One. The closing "darsan dayh" (grant me the vision) is the humble ask that ends the shabad: a longing to see.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people who make you want to be kinder and truer? What is it about being near them?
