Room In Your Heart

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਸਾਇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਉ ॥
charan kamal basaa-ay hirdai ayk si-o liv laa-o.
Enshrine the Lord's Lotus Feet within your heart; let yourself be lovingly attuned to the One Lord.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਉ ॥੧॥
saaDhsangat hohi nirmal bahurh jon na aa-o. ||1||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become immaculate and pure; you shall not come to be reincarnated again. ||1||

In plain words

Make a home for the One right inside your heart, and let your love rest fully on that One alone.

In the Sangat your heart grows clear and clean, and the tired old circling of the same worries comes to rest.

Give the One a room in your heart, and the mind stops circling.
The deeper layer

Make a home for the One inside your heart, and the mind stops going round and round.

Charan kamal basaa-ay hirdai — keep the Lotus Feet, the near and gentle presence of the One, inside your heart. Ayk si-o liv laa-o — let your love rest on the One.

In the saaDhsangat, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One — a person becomes nirmal, clear as clean water. Bahurh jon na aa-o means not coming back into birth again: the long round of going in circles comes to an end.

A Question to Sit With

What worry keeps circling back for you — and what might help it rest?
