With each and every breath, I dwell on the Lord, Har, Har; O Nanak, I am forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||61||84||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the support of my soul and my very breath; You are the home for anyone who has no home.

Nanak says: with every breath in and out I hold the One close, and my whole heart is grateful, again and again.

The One is a home for everyone the world leaves out.
The deeper layer

The One is a home for whoever has no home.

Nithaavay thaa-o, a home for the homeless, is one of the tenderest names for the One: whoever is left out everywhere else is welcomed here. Saas saas samHaal — holding the One with each breath — makes remembering as steady and natural as breathing. Sad bal jaa-o, forever giving myself over, is the gratitude of a full heart.

A Question to Sit With

Who around you might need to be made to feel at home?
