Strung on One Thread

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
soohee mehlaa 5.
Soohee, Fifth Mehl:
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਬਸਾਰੇ ॥
ghat ghat antar tumeh basaaray.
You dwell deep within the heart of each and every being.
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਸੂਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
sagal samagree soot tumaaray. ||1||
The entire universe is strung on Your Thread. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You live deep inside the heart of every single being.

The whole wide universe is strung together on Your one thread, like beads on a single string.

Everything that looks separate is strung on one hidden thread.
The deeper layer

ghat ghat antar tumeh basaaray — the One within each heart; sagal samagree soot tumaaray — all creation strung on one soot (thread). The image is quietly radical: the beads look separate, but a single hidden thread runs through them all. That is Ik Onkar you can picture.

A Question to Sit With

What connects you to people who seem very different from you?
