ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
agam agochar alakh apaaray.
You are inaccessible, incomprehensible, invisible and infinite.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਾਰੇ ॥੩॥੯॥੧੫॥
naanak simrai din rainaaray. ||3||9||15||
Nanak remembers You in meditation, day and night. ||3||9||15||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are beyond my reach, beyond my grasp, unseen and without any edge or end.
And still, night and day, my heart keeps quietly holding You.
The One is beyond all reach, and still as close as your own remembering.
agam agochar alakh apaaray — four words for the One's boundlessness: unreachable, imperceptible, invisible, infinite. Yet naanak simrai din rainaaray — the response to that vastness is not distance but constant, tender remembrance. The infinite and the intimate meet in the remembering heart.
A Question to Sit With
Can something be far beyond you and deeply close to you at the same time?
