What Pulls You From Love

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਛੋਹਾ ਕਰਤ ਕਸਾਈ ॥
paraym bichhohaa karat kasaa-ee.
This butcher has separated them from the Beloved Lord.
ਨਿਰਦੈ ਜੰਤੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਇਆ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
nirdai jant tis da-i-aa na paa-ee. ||2||
This merciless one shows no mercy at all to the poor beings. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is a force in the world that can cut you off from the ones you love and the good you were reaching for.

It does not go gently — it just keeps tugging, without much kindness.

Name honestly the things that pull you away from love.
The deeper layer

paraym bichhohaa karat kasaa-ee — the separator, imaged in the original as a kasaa-ee (butcher), that severs one from love; nirdai... da-i-aa na paa-ee — merciless. The graphic butcher-image is set aside; what is kept is the honest naming of a force that pulls us from love and does not relent on its own.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that pulls your attention away from the people you love?
