In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

When I hold the Name close, through the Guru's word, something in me finally settles.

Every hunger in my mind and body quiets down. Even my fear of death loosens its grip and lets go.

When the heart holds the Name, both craving and fear grow quiet.
The deeper layer

When your heart rests in the Name, the wanting and the fear both go quiet together.

Guru Ram Das says his mind holds on to the Name through gur sabad, the Guru's word. Then he says: sabh ichhaa man tan pooree-aa — every wish of mind and body is filled.

Think of a child who is finally home after a long, scary trip. They stop asking for snacks and stop worrying about the dark. Being safe fills them up.

That is what happens here. The same Name that ends the hunger also ends the fear. Even the fear of death lets go.

A Question to Sit With

What is one worry that gets smaller when you stop and settle your mind?
