In plain words

O my mind, sing the praises of the Name — let the song rise in you.

When the Guru's kindness wakes me up inside, I drink that sweetness the way you gulp cool water on a hot day — joyfully, all the way down.

Praise sung with a woken heart tastes like cool water on a hot day.
The deeper layer

When the Guru wakes up your heart, you don't sip the sweetness of the Name. You gulp it.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole song, the part everything else leans on.

Har pee-aa ras gatkay — "I drank the sweetness in big gulps." Gatkay is the sound of gulping. Picture coming in from football on a hot day and drinking a whole glass of cold water without stopping.

That is how the mind drinks once the Guru's kindness has woken it. It is not polite. It is pure joy.

A Question to Sit With

When has something good felt so refreshing you couldn't get enough of it?
