In plain words

Please, Great Giver, let me never lose sight of You — give me Your Name to keep.

Here is my one real wish, the thing my heart truly wants: to keep what is good and true singing in me, day and night. That is the joy I am asking for.

My one real wish is to keep what is good and true alive in me, day and night.
The deeper layer

This one means asking the Giver for one thing: to keep singing, day and night.

visar naahee daataar aapnaa naam dayh — do not let me forget, O Giver, give me Your Name. Daataar means the Giver.

gun gaavaa din raat naanak chaa-o ayhu — to sing Your goodness day and night, says Nanak, is my heart's wish. Chaa-o means a happy, eager longing.

Think of a favorite song you hum all day without trying. That is the wish here. The whole set of songs ends on one joyful hope: to keep remembering, always.

A Question to Sit With

What is the one thing your heart most wants to keep with you always?
