In plain words

The perfect Teacher is always right here with me.

Holding the Highest One in mind, I am always full of quiet joy.

Inside and outside, in every place and every space between, wherever I look, there He is.

Nanak says: by great good fortune I found the Teacher. No one else is as great.

Look anywhere with open eyes, and the One is already there.
The deeper layer

This one says that wherever you look, the One is already there.

The rahaa-o, the "pause" line, is the center of the shabad: satgur pooraa mayrai naal, "the perfect true teacher is with me." Not far off, but right here, like a parent's hand on your shoulder.

Paarbarahm means the Highest One. Holding the Highest One in mind, the verse says, you are nihaal, always full of joy.

Then the view opens wide. Jat kat paykha-o so-ee: "wherever I look, there He is." Inside and outside, in every place and every space between. This is a favorite note in Raag Sorath.

The shabad ends with thanks. Finding the teacher is great good fortune. Tis jayvad avar na ko-ee: no one else is as great.

A Question to Sit With

Can you name three places you would look and expect to find something wonderful?
